
LA ESTANCIA
Estancia Río Penitente, founded in 1891 by the Scottish family Alexander Morrison and Helen McCall, is a historical landmark of cattle ranching in the Magallanes region. After five generations, it retains its original main house and shearing shed, and since 1990 has incorporated tourism, allowing visitors to experience the traditions and activities typical of one of the first ranches in Patagonia.
ACCOMMODATION AND ACTIVITIES
The Estancia Río Penitente inn offers eight rooms with private bathrooms and central heating, in a renewable energy environment. Visitors can enjoy horseback riding, fly fishing, and hiking while staying in a Victorian-style building with spacious living rooms and a dining room that evoke late 19th-century Europe. They can also enjoy a unique and captivating cuisine.
GASTRONOMY
At the Estancia Río Penitente barbecue area, visitors can enjoy typical Patagonian cuisine, including delicious spit-roasted lamb paired with Chilean red wine. They can also witness sheep shearing in the original facilities of the estancia, an emblematic tradition that offers a firsthand look at the culture and rural life of the Magallanes region.
